Please note that all papers accepted for the technical program must be presented by one of its authors in person at the conference.
We will offer a limited virtual attendee experience via Zoom exclusively for participants from developing countries (please see the list of eligible countries here). Participants will be able to follow the ICWSM Technical Program, with the ability to interact via the Zoom chat. Workshop/Tutorials

ICWSM-25 workshops and tutorials will be held on Monday, June 23rd, just prior to the technical conference. Technical registrants may sign up for any combination of workshops and/or tutorials on June 23rd as part of their technical registration. For those wishing to attend only the Workshop/Tutorial Day, a Workshop/Tutorial Day Only registration is offered. PARTICIPANTS SHOULD NOT SIGN UP FOR CONCURRENT EVENTS, so please consult the schedule carefully before making your selections.

Visa Options for ICWSM 2025
1. Regular VISA application: Apply independently to your local embassy. Include your conference paper acceptance notification and AAAI invitation letter, and follow regular <<<<<<< HEAD embassy processing timelines. Please note that AAAI will provide a personalized invitation letter once you have a paid registration to ICWSM-25. You may request your visa invitation letter via the online link in your registration confirmation email. Please allow 24 hours for AAAI to process your visa invitation letter request. You may register for ICWSM-25 here. If your visa application is denied, AAAI will provide a full refund.
2. Fast-track process through Aalborg University Aalborg University is a pre-registered body [here about what this means ] that can initiate the visa process on your behalf. This is a streamlined application option that, in many cases, ensures a faster process. However, as the applications still need to be approved by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the request can still be denied in certain situations. So, while faster, there is no guarantee of success.

We did not make specific arrangements for discounted rates at any hotels. Copenhagen offers a wide range of hotels from 2 to 5 stars, including many low-budget options. Accommodation for student attendees

Copenhagen offers both hotels and hostels for low-budget travellers. The student travel grant assists student participants both with travel to Copenhagen, as well as with conference expenses (such as housing, local transportation to/from the airport, conference registration, etc.). Please note that it intends to subsidize student participation in ICWSM-25, but does not intend to cover all travel and conference expenses. The final amount will vary depending on the cost of the travel, the available funds, and the number and type of applicants. This travel grant's eligibility includes active student program enrollment and physical presence at ICWSM-25 or any of the associated workshops.

A City Surrounded by Water

Whether it's the scenic waterfront, the old canals, or inner-city lakes, water takes center stage in Copenhagen. Once a fishermen's and merchants' port, Copenhagen's harbour area evolved into an industrial dock before transforming into today's popular cultural and recreative space.

Nowadays, the harbour area is a year-round favorite spot for recreational activities such as swimming, kayaking, rowing, stand-up paddling, and fishing, and popular with locals and visitors alike. Equally popular is to walk or cycle around the entire harbour basin and via the 24(!) bike bridges connecting Copenhagen's city districts crosswise. Alternatively, sit back and enjoy the city from the waterside on one of the many boat tours available.

Summer in Copenhagen means spending as much time as possible outside, and the long summer days gives you plenty of time to explore the city. This is the perfect season for familiarising yourself with the city's bike culture or blending in with the locals in some of the many parks and gardens. Those hoping to go for a swim are never far away from a city beach or a harbour bath in Copenhagen. In fact, the harbour water is so clean that you can swim in it, making it a popular pastime among locals in summer. If you are here for the food, you can easily combine fine dining with visits to street food markets or enjoy a drink outside at a cosy café or bar. Those hoping to do some sightseeing can cruise the harbour and inner-city canals while taking in sights such as the Christiansborg Palace and Christianshavn.

Where the Bikes Rule

Copenhagen is frequently voted one of the most bike-friendly cities in the world, and its 546 km of bicycle paths, curb-separated bicycle tracks, bike bridges, cycle superhighways, and bike traffic lights are part of the daily commute for many locals. The city's tireless focus on bicycle-centric urban planning and on creating a safe, well-connected, and user-friendly bicycle infrastructure quickly makes most visitors understand that one of the best ways to explore the city is, in fact, by bike. Many of Copenhagen's hotels provide free bikes for their guests, and both local bike rentals and tour guides are more than happy to assist you with getting out and about the city on two wheels.

ICWSM is seeking partner researchers for its new ICWSM-Global Initiative, which aims to increase not just submission and attendance by researchers in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC), but also to facilitate new social connections between the ICWSM community and a more global, diverse, and inclusive population.

ICWSM suffers from a common malady experienced by many academic conferences: a dearth of papers from researchers in underserved communities and in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC), colloquially known as "The Global South." For ICWSM specifically, this paucity is problematic, since many of the problems we study are global in nature. For example, rising threats of online misinformation commonly studied in the US also have also arisen in India, and the widely discussed threats of AI supplanting and/or furthering inequality in the US also have global consequences, e.g. in Kenya. These problems are under study by researchers, journalists, and many other stakeholders in LMICs, and ICWSM would greatly benefit from their experiences, perspectives, and voices. To this end, ICWSM-Global is actively soliciting proposals from researchers in the following areas:

Unlike programs like PhD symposia, ICWSM-Global encourages researchers in general–not only students–to participate in ICWSM. Through this initiative, researchers from LMIC-based institutions will be partnered with senior members of the ICWSM community who have volunteered to help forge connections and shepherd research into a successful ICWSM publication. ICWSM-Global will also provide financial support for these LMIC-based research partners to attend a "brainstorming" workshop at ICWSM 2025 in Copenhagen, Denmark. If selected for the program, research partners will be matched with a senior ICWSM member with related background/interests who will guide the partner in developing a paper to be submitted to ICWSM. Submitted papers will be subject to the same rigorous standards as typical ICWSM papers, but handled via a special, fast-track review process handled via a program committee lead by experienced Senior Program Committee members. Papers submitted to the fast-track deadline will be subject to the same Revise-and-Resubmit process as typical ICWSM papers, ICWSM-Global participants' in-person attendance to ICWSM 2025 will be covered regardless of their submission's outcome.
It is expected that there will be 4-6 accepted participants, who will each receive travel expense coverage.

Eligibility

ICWSM-Global's core objective is to introduce new members to the ICWSM community and build bridges to underserved communities whose voices need to be heard. Consequently, ICWSM-Global applicants should be new to the ICWSM community, having not previously attended ICWSM. The ICWSM-Global initiative is intended to support researchers currently engaged at organizations that are public or private institutions of higher education or non-profit organizations whose primary purpose is the conduct of research or science education activities. As financial resources remain one of the premier barriers to attending ICWSM, ICWSM-Global is covering potential partners' travel and accommodation costs for attendance in 2025. Ideal candidates should have substantial need for this financial support. As such, potential partners should be from an institution located in a low- or middle-income country (see http://oe.cd/dac-list-oda-recipients for a list). This point is not a hard requirement, as partners from other underserved communities (e.g., historically black colleges and universities or similar institutions) may be eligible as well.

All persons, organizations and entities that attend AAAI conferences and events are subject to the standards of conduct set forth on the AAAI Code of Conduct for Events and Conferences. AAAI expects all community members to formally endorse this code of conduct, and to actively prevent and discourage any undesired behaviors. Everyone should feel empowered to politely engage when they or others are disrespected, and to raise awareness and understanding of this code of conduct. AAAI event participants asked to stop their unacceptable behavior are expected to comply immediately. Sponsors are also subject to this code of conduct in their participation in AAAI events.
Additionally, participants are encouraged to be courteous when sharing screen captures and photographs of conference events.
